With summer on the horizon, I’ve found myself returning to a simple but grounding practice that made a big impact on me last year: choosing a handful of values to guide the season ahead.
I didn’t expect how much clarity it would bring. By naming what mattered most to me—before the pace of summer swept in—I was able to make decisions, set boundaries, and live in a way that felt anchored and life-giving. So, I’m doing it again this year. And I’d love for you to join me.
Here are the values I'm carrying into this summer (in order of significance):
Tenderness
Body Awareness
Attachment / Abide
Nurture
Abundance vs. scarcity
Stewardship
Partnership
Creativity
Service
Pivot
These ten words are more than values—they're invitations. Each one grounds me in who I want to be and in my relationship with God.
Want to Try It?
I’ve put together a Summer Values List to help you pause and reflect. It’s simple and prayerful:
Invite God into it. Take 5–10 minutes to highlight the words that stir something in you.
Narrow it down. Choose the values that feel most important in this season.
Rank them. Or don’t—sometimes it's enough just to name them.
To keep my values visible, I turned mine into a phone wallpaper. It’s a small thing, but I see it dozens of times a day—and it helps me stay rooted.
Want Your Own Custom Wallpaper?
If you do this exercise and send me your top values, I’ll make you a personalized wallpaper to carry into your summer. Just my way of cheering you on.
Let’s enter this season with a bit more intention—not to over-structure summer, but to make space for what really matters.
I'd love to hear which values surface for you this year. Feel free to reply or comment and share.
Until then,
Lisa
